Not sure what kind of things you like, or how long you'd be here, so here's a few suggestions for where to visit:
-> Singapore Zoo/Night safari. I'm a foreigner living in Singapore, and I've been to the zoo quite a few times, and still have tonnes of fun whenever I go
Try to go on weekends though, coz it's a lot more fun when there are crowds ^^
-> Mount Faber
It's got (kind of) a nice view of southern singapore. The downside is that there are quite a lot of constructions going on, so the view is not quite as nice as it could be.
There are a few restaurants here... nothing spectacular food-wise, but the ambience is nice
You can get there by taking a cab, or cable car from Harborfront/Sentosa
Btw I don't really recommend going to sentosa. I know Singapore tourism board usually promotes it as one of the must-go place, but er... never been a fan ^^
there are some good restaurants along the beach fronts though
-> little india. a lot more fascinating than china town imho.
You can get there by taking buses from orchard road, or taking the train
-> clarke quay
one of my fav places in Singapore. mostly restaurants... good ambience especially in evenings.
there's another kinokuniya located in a shopping centre called "Liang Court". if you want to try finding older magazines, you'd probably have more luck here than in takashimaya's branch
->Esplanade/fullerton area
I like this area in general... mostly sight-seeing, looking at the high rise office buildings.
Despite the ugly green-hornet-like front, esplanade is actually quite nice. there's a good korean bbq place. or you can opt to try the local food at the outdoor eating place.
If you want to do some shopping:
-> bugis area for more "street" stuff
-> orchard/vivocity for the big brand names.
well on 2nd thought, you can find malls in practically any part of singapore ^__^
Places to stay is a bit more difficult to recommend... it really depends on your budget and the kind of location you want. Hotels in singapore are generally quite expensive compared to other Asean countries
You can try searching online to get some idea, I guess
For CDs, you might actually be able to find some older releases at this local chain called "CD Rama". IT's usually together with this book/stationery store called "Popular"
I haven't been in a while, but I remembered seeing a few of the JE stuff there before.
There are quite a few branches of that store. (Used to have one at Orchard MRT, but not sure if it's still there)
Wow that's a long comment XD
hope it helps
