Hi, Welcome to Singapore! Seen that you've some advise about the place to visit. But I'll just add on that for food, you probably would want to go to normal hawker centres (find them practically anywhere and everywhere) than those restaurants. They usually serve more local-style food. Hainanese Chicken Rice, Laksa, Rojak, Roti Prata etc. are worth trying. And if you dare, durains too. :) And if you ever go to any Food Republic (there's one in Wisma Atria in Orchard), you should try the Fried Prawn Noodles. And probably Char Kuay Teow. Mostly local food, so I'm not sure if you'll like them. But definitely worth a try or two. :)
